Contrarco Baroque Ensemble

Contrarco Baroque Ensemble was born through the “A. Steffani” Conservatory of Castelfranco Veneto, real “factory” of strings musicians and famous for its Early Music Department. Comprised of six musicians in the Venetian area, they specialize in performing ancient Italian music on period instruments.

Some of their collaborators include baroque orchestras and soloists: I Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Il Pomo d’Oro, Stefano Montanari, Academie für Alte Musik Brüneck, Teatro ”La Fenice" Baroque Orchestra, Giuliano Carmignola, Philippe Jaroussky, Dorothee Oberlinger etc. Since their childhood they have been breathing the inspiring air of Venice, the immortal city of art.

The style of Contrarco is immediately fresh and clear, coming from the Venetian String School, a way of playing coming from the XVII century and never stopped. A flamboyant bow technique, the passion for enthralling rhythms combined with natural sound elegance are our distinctive features.
