Sofia City Ballet

Sofia City Ballet

Sofia City Ballet was created in 2009 with the idea to unite Bulgarian top dancers in a new creative and developing dance company and to provide performance opportunities for young and talented classically trained dancers.

Since its inception, Sofia City Ballet has performed classical ballets including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Giselle, etc. The company has also worked with artists such as Bianca Fota, Ovidiu Iancu, Gigel Ungureanu - principal dancers of Bucharest National Opera and Ballet, Vesela Vasileva and Daniel Tichkov - principal dancers of Rousse State Ballet, Marta Petkova, Nikola Hadjitanev, Vesa Tonova, Trifon MItev - principal dancers of Sofia National Opera and Ballet, Arianne Lafita and Vittorio Galloro – Cuban National Ballet.

While seeking to expose its dancers to a wide array of guest artistry, Sofia City Ballet simultaneously encourage new choreographic talents and provides a stage from which to debut new choreographic projects. The company successfully toured UAE, Italy, Spain, Oman and other countries. The next project is the staging of a new avant-guard performance of the popular ballet The Nutcracker in 2014.
