Joana Zhelezcheva started her professional career as a mezzo soprano on the stage of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Sofia, where she took part in the performances of Andrea Chenier, The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, Faust, Othello and Macbeth.
Later, when already performing the repertoire of dramatic soprano, she became a prize-winner at the competition Puldin in the city of Plovdiv, the competition Hristo Brambarov in the city of Sofia and the competition Gena Dimitrova in the city of Pleven and made records for the Bulgarian National Radio.
In 2007 she made her debut in the city of Burgas in the part of Amelia of the Verdi’s opera A Masked Ball. Since 2008 she has been a soloist of the State Opera of Burgas. Then followed her debut in the part of Butterfly of the Puccini’s opera of the same name; the debut in the part of Santuzza of the Mascagni’s opera Cavalleria rusticana; Liu of the Puccini’s Turandot.
In 2009 she was a guest-artist in Holland in the part of Aida of the Verdi’s opera. In 2010 she made a debut in the part of Manon Lescaut of the Puccini’s opera Manon Lescaut on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. As a main soloist of the Opera of Burgas she also performed Elisabeth of the Verdi’s Don Carlos; Lady Macbeth of the Verdi’s Macbeth; Leonora of the Verdi’s The Troubadour. Her repertoire includes also the Puccini’s Tosca and the Bellini’s Norma.
Her debuts in the part of Donna Elvira of the Mozart’s Don Giovanni and in the part of Odabella of the Verdi’s opera Attila are forthcoming.
