Marta Petkova

Marta Petkova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She graduated from the National School of Dance Art (class of Rumiana Atanasova) in 2004. In 1999 she was a finalist of the International Ballet Competition in Tallinn (Estonia) and in Luxembourg. In 2000 she received the grand prize of the National Ballet Competition Anastas Petrov as well as the special prize of Dobrich Municipality (Bulgaria). Same year at the International Ballet Competition in Varna (Bulgaria) she was awarded with the special prize by Sylvia Co., Japan. During the competition she was offered to continue her education in Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC. In 2002 she received the grand prize of the International Ballet Festival in Fivizzano (Italy). The same year she joined the troupe of Sofia Opera and Ballet. In 2006 she received an award for young talents from the The Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria. Since 2007 she has been a principal dancer of Sofia Opera and Ballet. In 2011 she was awarded the Crystal Lyre for Achievements in ballet art. She participates in the International Festival of Classic Ballet named after Rudolf Nureyev (Kazan, Russia). She is also a guest soloist with Palermo and Naples ballet companies.
Her repertoire includes main roles in ballets: Giselle, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadère, The Firebird, Schéhérazade, La Sylphide, Paquita, The Lady of the Camellias, The Goat Horn, Carmen.
